Spaces Available in New Jewellery/ Art Studio, Vancouver, BC

Hello Friends,

I am about to sign a lease on a studio, and am looking for 2 really great long-term studio mates for February 1! It's suitable for other jewellers or other artists who don't need a huge space.

The space is a 600 square foot suite of offices on the second floor of a 2-storey building. The common area will have some shared jewellery equipment (polishing machine, rolling mill, and vise), as well as a meeting area for customers, display area, or room for storage cabinets. The uses of the common area are flexible depending on people's needs. The bathroom is down the hall, but is for the use of this studio only, as the other suites have their own bathrooms. There is laminate flooring throughout.

The 2 spaces available are both private rooms, around 100 square feet each. One has a large, north-facing window, and the other has no windows. The one with the window will rent for $375/month, and the other will be $350. Rent includes hydro, wifi, and insurance.

This is a great opportunity to be in a shared space, but also have your own room, and a little privacy!

Please let me know if you're interested, or pass it on if you know someone else who may be!

In the champlevé portion of the course, the etching techniques of intaglio, PNP, and sugar lift are covered. The decorative applications of foils, glass rods, and millefiori can also be incorporated into your artwork. Cloisonné Enamelling

5 Mondays Feb 6th to March 5th 2012

6:30pm to 9:00 pm

Instructor: Peggy Logan

Cloisonné means partition in French. These partitions are created with silver wire set into clear glass called flux in enamelling. They are then filled with coloured glass enamel to suit the design. Cloisonné is usually used as stone replacement in jewellery and set with a bezel. We will create a piece of Cloisonné enamel from start to finish using traditional techniques of wire bending and wet packing enamel. The use of foils under glazes and rods to add depth to your work will be discussed. Your piece can be executed on a flat or curved surface. It is preferable to have previous enameling experience. Students are to bring their own set of pliers if they can if not we have some that can be shared. 4 student max.

$188.00 course fee (plus HST)

Fine silver Wire costs are extra

For registration please phone Peggy Logan at 604-339-6976 or drop by the studio on a Saturday between noon and 6:00pm. We take Visa, Master card and checks payable to Margaret Logan

"Women Who Work With Metal" Group Show in Maple Ridge, BC

Here's the invite to a group show I'm in Oct. 8- Nov. 12. Maple Ridge has a beautiful arts centre and gallery, and this show has some spectacular work in it. I especially love Sylvie Roussel-Janssen's work, pictured at the bottom of this post. I thought at first it was stained glass, but it is actually fabric stretched over a series of metal frames.

Please note I will be giving an artist talk on November 5, 1-2:30 pm. I will be showing a slide presentation of the progression of my work from jewellery to sculpture, some photos of the armour and samurai sword fittings that have inspired me, and also a bit of a travelogue of the artist residency I did in Finland, which was so important to the development of my work.

Setting up the show with the other 5 artists, I was amazed at the variety of approaches to working in metal.
